DWE has a component-based architecture with client and server pieces.
DWE components are arranged into three logical groups. Typically you install these groups on three different computers, but you can install them on two computers. For example, you can install the Warehousing Server components and Application Server components on the same computer, or on two different computers. Additionally, you can install the DWE documentation on any computer. The groups are shown in the following figure.
Figure 1. Logical groups of DWE components on different computers
The groups are:
- Data Warehousing Server
- This group includes the server components of DB2® UDB, Query Patroller, Cube Views™, and Intelligent Miner™.
- Application Server
- This group includes WebSphere® Application Server and applications that run on WebSphere. These applications are the DWE Administration Console, runtime services for the DB2 Administration Client, runtime services for the SQL Warehousing Tool, and DB2 Alphablox. The Application Server requires DB2 UDB to be installed in your environment.
- Client
- This group includes the Design Studio, the DB2 Admin Client front-end, the OLAP Center for Cube Views™, and Query Patroller center.
Additionally, you can install the DWE documentation, including the DWE tutorial, with any of these groups.
